Chondroitin sulfate sodium is a sodium salt of sulfated chain mucopolysaccharide extracted from cartilage tissues such as the larynx, nasal bone, and trachea of pigs. Chondroitin sulfate sodium is mainly composed of N-acetylgalactosamine (2-acetamide-2deoxy-β-D-galactopyranose) and D-glucuronic acid, the sodium salt of hexose in the copolymer It is alternately connected by β-1,3 and β-1,4 glycosidic bonds. Calculated as dry products, the sodium content of chondroitin sulfate is 95.0%-105.0% (for injection and eye drops); the sodium content of chondroitin sulfate is 85.0%-105.0% (for oral use).

Sodium Chondroitin Sulfate is white or off-white powder; slightly salty; odorless; hygroscopic. The aqueous solution of this product is viscous and does not condense when heated.

Chondroitin sulfate sodium is easily soluble in water, but insoluble in ethanol, acetone or glacial acetic acid.
